The unique nature, rapid transformation and job demands of our industry require us to navigate and manage unique psychosocial safety risks and hazards.

 

As an industry, we have decades of experience managing physical hazards, but effectively identifying and managing psychosocial risks and hazards requires a different approach.

Leaders and managers from throughout our businesses need to own it, understand it, drive it and promote it. While Health & Safety, Human Resources and Operations leaders and teams need to work collaboratively to identify hazards, implement controls and manage incidents.

Over the course of the day, attendees will gain the fundamental knowledge and understanding needed to create and maintain a psychologically safe work environment, through a series of engaging and interactive sessions delivered by Dr Tessa Bailey, CEO of The OPUS Centre for Psychosocial Risk.​​​​

The nature of psychosocial risks and hazards

The difference between risk and hazards, and the factors that lead to psychological harm. ​

 

Identifying, assessing and responding to psychosocial risks

Explore and assess the various risk assessment tools available to support effective risk management.

 ​

Strategies others have employed to effectively manage risks

Case studies detailing the successful strategies, programs and frameworks other employers have implemented.  ​​​

Developing and implementing an intervention plan 

How the business can work collaboratively to implement an effective action planning process.​

After the Workshop, head to the rooftop terrace to network with other leaders from across the industry.

As CEO at OPUS, Dr Tessa Bailey engages with industry internationally to build the capacity of Workforce Health and Safety systems to provide a safe environment, protect worker health, and promote wellbeing.

Tessa is a registered psychologist and leading researcher who completed her PhD on Psychosocial Safety Climate & Psychosocial Safety Factors at Work, for which she received the 2019 Ian Davies award for the most outstanding PhD thesis in the University of SA. 

 

She has over two decades of experience working in human resource management, injury prevention, and injury management in both public and private sectors across a wide range of industries.

She was also a Research Fellow on the Australian Workplace Barometer (AWB) project at the University of South Australia, which collected and analysed data on working conditions, worker health, and productivity for over 7000 workers from across all Australian states and territories since 2011. ​​
